Moonlark  RC391

Sail Number:  391

Name:  “Moonlark”

Owners:  K & M  Cowley

Flag:  (Blue crescent moon on sail)

Handicap:  23P

Build year:  1938-1945

Designer/Builder:  Alex Simpson, Wayford Bridge.

Former names:  None

Moonlark is a beautiful 19’ two berth gunter yacht , she is unique, as she was built by Alex simpson, boatbuilder of Wayford bridge, as his own boat.  He started the build in 1938 and finished her post war.

She is carvel built with varnished mahogany planks, has new Macnamara sails, Wykeham Martin furling gear, snubbing winches, hollow mast, winter covers, full tent awning , two berths, chemical loo, small galley and a full complement of cruising gear.

Moonlark is in exceptionally good condition, having been extremely pampered by a small number of owners.  All major work in recent years has been undertaken by Colin Buttifant, and includes new aerofoil rudder and keel, keel bolts, hog, roof mouldings, linoleum deck and roof, stainless outboard bracket, toe rails, rubbing strakes etc. (with receipts). This year she was stripped to bare wood below the water line and given six coats of primer plus antifoul (see photograph). She has a current Boat Safety Certificate, is in the water and ready to sail.

Moonlark sails beautifully, light to handle and perfectly balanced.  We are looking for a caring home for this little piece of broads history.  She is moored in Ludham and may be viewed anytime.
